Typical GPS/VRT Process

This is a short explanation of the steps involved in setting up a field with Variable Rate Technology.

1. Boundary Mapping

A field boundary is created by driving around the field to collect data in a vehicle equipped with GPS and a computer

2. Grid Sampling

A grid pattern is then overlaid onto the boundary where core samples are taken from one spot inside each grid

3.Sample Results

The soil samples are then sent to the Sure Tech Labs in Indianapolis. Sure Tech Labs then sends the soil sample results to Growers via e-mail. Then the field boundary and soil sample sites imported into a computer program designed to analyze site specific information.

4.Site Value Map

These results are then imported into the field and each sample site now has its own set of values

5. Contour Map

These values are then analyzed and a contour map of the field is created, generally for pH, P, and K

6. Prescription map

From this contour map a prescription map is created, placing the correct amounts of material where they are needed

7. Field Computer

The prescription for the field is then exported and put into a field computer installed in one of many types of application equipment

8.Application

The applicator then drives normally and the equipment automatically changes rates as called for by the prescription map, based on the GPS coordinates.
